2019 Tidal Unplugged recipient Emma Guzman is a native of Mount Clemens and has always felt the need to express herself through music. Choosing to spend her time humming melodies and frantically scribbling lyrics in various notebooks and on random scraps of paper, she has quietly amassed a substantial collection of songs. Described by the Detroit Metro Times as a "songwriting prodigy" and one of their top 15 artists to watch in 2016, Emma has continued to make her mark in the Detroit music scene. Emma has played all over the state of Michigan, including the Traverse City Film Festival, Arts Beats and Eats, and Winter Blast.
With the help and guidance of so many people in and around the Detroit songwriting scene, Emma has enriched her life through music, friendship, and engagement in the community. In equal doses of honesty and sincerity, delicately blending clarity with allegory in both content and approach, she has amassed an assortment of raw and organic songs. Emma recently received a grant from the streaming service Tidal.
