The Gratitude Steel Band will perform a free concert at the Waterfront Park Pavilion on Wednesday July 27, 2022 from 5-7pm. The concert is made possible by the Port Austin Township Library. The Florida-based husband and wife team of Chaz and Loretta Russell delivers an eclectic mix of Reggae, Latin and Pop tunes, performed on authentic steel pans. A special interest is their Soca music, a genre of music defined by Lord Shorty, its inventor, as the Soul of Calypso, African and East Indian rhythms. It is a genre of music that originated in Trinidad and Tobago in the early 1970’s and developed into a range of styles during the 1980’s and after.
