Dr Harp and Sweet Melissa
–All forms of Blues, Americana, and hidden gems of American music.
Dr Harp & Sweet Melissa is a four-person group featuring guitars, keyboards, percussion, and blues harp. Plan on seeing a rousing set of jump blues, boogie and Americana with tunes spanning about 100 years of history.
This group has played all Porch Fests and two Heritage Festivals in the thumb area. Our music is raw and we aim to entertain as well as to educate the audience as to the history of the material. Expect some rough and ready blues along with some John Prine, Van Morrison, and other material that you may recognize. '
The keyboard player has a music degree and lives in the East Lansing area. The bass player hails from the Toledo area and honed his skills at church. Sweet Melissa attended college on a music scholarship and appeared in various theater productions as well as wowing crowds at live venues. Dr Harp has played the blues for 50 years and has played in numerous dank and dirty taverns, on rooftops, basements, festivals and in the streets of New Orleans, Chicago, Minneapolis, and other cities. If you are into this type of stuff, they invite you to please stop by their set. Should be fun!
