PORCH FEST IS BACK!
After an extremely successful first year, Porch Fest II comes to Port Austin on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
Once again, numerous porches and yards throughout the city will host talented musical acts over a four hour span from 1-5 PM. Visitors and residents, all music lovers, will be able to stroll casually from venue to venue following well-prepared maps which conveniently provide the time (s) each entertainer is performing, the type of music in which each specializes, and the location and owner of each porch hosting the music. Numerous styles will be offered by over thirty musical acts, among them pop, rock, country, gospel, and polkas.
The first official Porch Fest is credited to Ithaca, New York, which hosted its first event of this type in 2007. Since that time, approximately 50 additional cities and villages throughout the United States and Canada have conducted their own version. The Port Austin event is one of only two known in Michigan, the other being in an Ann Arbor neighborhood.
Present elsewhere on this website are photos from last year's event, featuring both porches and the entertainers. A current listing of all of this year's acts can be found under the heading “2017 Lineup – Musicians.” Under the heading “2017 Lineup – Porches,” you will find pictures and locations for all of this years porches and sites. Maps and schedules detailing the artists, their styles, their times performing, and their locations will be up approximately two weeks before the actual event.
This site, portaustinmusic.com, will be updated periodically between now and June. Please check it and our facebook page, Porch Fest in Port Austin, on a regular basis to keep abreast of things. If you are a musician or have musical friends whom you think might like to participate, please direct them to the Participant page on the website. A committee consisting of Dennis Hafeli, Peggy Miller, Carl and Debbie Osantoski, and Mike Patrick is working hard to make this event one of the most anticipated
happenings in the Thumb. Please put June 24, 2017, on your calendar of “can't miss events” this summer. You won't be disappointed!!
