John Kumjian

John Kumjian is a highly sought after session percussionist/drummer/guitarist and vocalist who can frequently be found "filling in" for area and regional groups, and has spent a number of years touring regionally with various artists of all musical styles including jazz, world beat, blues, folk and reggae. His touring credits include Becky Barksdale, Denise Franke and Conga Se Menne. John spends a considerable amount of time recording with local and regional artists...he also owns and operates his own home recording studio. He has recorded his performances on nearly twenty regional CD releases, including the 2003 Red House release “Going Driftless-An Artist’s Tribute to Greg Brown.” 

John performs as a vocalist, guitarist and percussionist for the acclaimed Leelanau county folk trio “New Third Coast. John also spends a considerable amount of time as a songwriter, private teacher and local music consultant. 
He earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music Education and Instructional Leadership from Northern Michigan University and is a retired Instrumental and General Music teacher after 28 years of teaching. He currently resides near Traverse City, Michigan.
